During the 1950s and 1960s, a number of Greek Orthodox Christians had settled in and around the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. As there were no Orthodox Christian churches nearby at the time, the sacramental needs were served by neighbouring Greek Orthodox priests who periodically commuted to Kitchener in order to conduct Divine services including the Divine Liturgy, and the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Matrimony.
As the Greek Orthodox population in the area continued to grow, a number of progressive persons joined together with the common goal of founding a Greek Orthodox community in Kitchener, ON. In 1967, the Greek Orthodox Community of Sts. Peter and Paul Church was established with the granting of the charter from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America. Shortly thereafter, our church community acquired a property located at Weber and Ottawa Streets in Kitchener, ON.
By the grace of God, over the next two decades our church family continued to flourish. By the late 1980s, our Greek Orthodox community was committed to building a new church. Construction of our new church was completed in 1991, making our current location at Bridgeport and Lancaster Streets in Kitchener, ON our new home.
